Saturday, 19 October 2013 Memorial Stadium, Clemson
The eagerly awaited ACC clash between No.5 Florida State Seminoles (5-0, 3-0) and No.3 Clemson Tigers (6-0, 4-0). This is the first top 5 ACC clash since 2005 when Miami defeated Virginia Tech.
There is much more at stake on the line other than an undefeated record. Two of the best quarterbacks in the College football will be on show. Florida State’s freshman Jameis Winston and Clemson’s senior Tajh Boyd are both Heisman Trophy candidates. The NFL scouting network along with millions of TV viewers will evaluating both these talents.
Questions will be asked of Jameis Winston’s temperament and whether or not he can perform in a high pressure game and a hostile environment like Clemson. Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher is able to get the best out of his players. Winston has thrown for 1,4491 yards for 19 total touchdowns and 2 picks. WR Rahsad Greene has 23 receptions for 407 yards and 5 receiving touchdowns. DB Terrence Brooks has 24 combined tackles including 2 force fumbles and a pick. The Seminoles score an average of 53 points per game and give up12 points per game.
Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney will know the importance of home advantage but he will be reminding his players that this alone will not win them the game. Senior QB Tajh Boyd has 1,783 yards for a total of 20 touchdowns and 2 picks. Boyd requires 164 passing yards to go to a total of 10,000 in College football. Junior WR Sammy Watkins has 36 catches for 582 yards and 4 touchdowns. Clemson have a tough defense co-ordianted by coach Chad Morris. DE Vic Beasley has 20 combined tackles including 9 sacks. The Tigers score an average of 40 points per game and give up 16 points per game.
On paper the Seminoles have a better offensive matchup and the Tigers have the best defensive match up. Stats are going to count for little in this one, at the end of the 4th quarter it will be the final score that people will look at.
Yesterday I was asked if I bet on football, my response was “No! You have have more chance of predicting the lottery numbers than predicting football scores this season.”
